Marcia J. Scherer PhD MPH

Dr. Scherer is author of the book, "Living in the State of Stuck: How Assistive Technology Impacts the Lives of People with Disabilities," and the new edited volume published by the American Psychological Association titled Assistive Technology: Matching Device and Consumer for Successful Rehabilitation. This edited volume features chapters by many RESNA members, as well as rehabilitation psychologists. Another publication released early 2002 is a special issue of the journal, Disability and Rehabilitation, edited by Dr. Scherer on general topics in Assistive Technology. Dr. Scherer also co-edited the books, Evaluating, Selecting and Using Appropriate Assistive Technology and Psychological Assessment in Medical Rehabilitation. She is on the editorial boards of the journal Disability and Rehabilitation and RESNA’s journal, Assistive Technology. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Rehabilitation Psychology as well as in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology. In addition to directing the Institute for Matching Person & Technology, Dr. Scherer is Senior Research Associate, International Center for Hearing and Speech Research (a joint program of the University of Rochester and National Technical Institute for the Deaf/Rochester Institute of Technology) and is Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Rochester Medical Center. Marcia Scherer will advise the project team on the use of the use of measures she has developed from her Matching Person & Technology (MPT) Model.
