Jon A. Sanford M. Arch

Research Architect

Jon A. Sanford, M.Arch. is a Research Architect at the Atlanta VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Center. Mr. Sanford holds a Masters of Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His major areas of research are the relationship between nursing home the physical environment design and the behavior and functioning of residents with dementia, and environmental factors related to safety and accessibility for older individuals, older adults and people with disabilities. He is collaborating on pilot a number of studies that examine the environmental correlates of quality of life of older individuals with disabilities and of individuals aging with spinal cord injury who live in community settings. Mr. Sanford is a member of the Gerontological Society of America; the American Society on Aging and its Aging, Disability and Rehabilitation Network; and the Environmental Design Research Association and is Co-Editor of its quarterly newsletter, Design Research News.  He is also a consultant on a CDC funded research project that is developing community indicators of barriers and facilitators to participation for people with mobility limitations (Dr. Gray is the PI).  Mr. Sanford’s experience and expertise is in the field of universal design, building modification and product access will be an asset to the proposed project.  He will contribute his knowledge about assistive technology in the home.  He is also a consultant on a CDC funded research project that is developing community indicators of barriers and facilitators to participation for people with mobility limitations (Dr. Gray is the PI).
