Missouri Foundation for Health: Health and Wellness Program

The EMC was awarded a 2-year grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to work directly with people with mobility impairments who use mobility devices (canes, walkers, wheelchairs) to develop health management handbooks and exercise programs. The exercise programs will be individually adapted for each individual's physical abilities. Prior to beginning an exercise program, each participant will review their health status with their own physician, a physician volunteer, a medical resident or a physician at the EMC. Each participant will then have the choice of attending a one day exercise workshop with a family member, having an exercise plan developed to do in their own home or participating in an 12 week exercise program at the EMC. The participants will then be assisted with finding fitness centers with accessible exercise equipment located in or near their communities and encouraged to participate in exercise in their communities.
