Home modification refers to adaptations to the home environment to increase ease of use, safety, comfort, security, and independence. Major modifications include ramps, roll-in showers, and lowered countertops. Minor modifications include grab bars, widened doorways, better lighting, hand-held showers, and lever door handles. People who have mobility limitations can use various means within their homes to compensate for a reduced ability to perform certain functions. The following links provide access to information about home modifications, how to pay for them and what technical requirements may be necessary should you decide to install home modifications yourself.
